Club praised Depp's functioning in particular, proverb "the actor's vocal inflections and mannerisms create an incredible facsimile of Trump—albeit 1 that'due south rooted in the twitchy kookiness of Captain Jack Sparrow or Raoul Duke. For once in his mail service-Pirates of the Caribbean career, an entire production can really keep upward with Depp's whims and tap into his wavelength, striking a tone that'south as big and brassy as the grapheme he's playing."[8] He also compared the film to Garth Marenghi's Darkplace in its presentation of Trump as a megalomaniac writing, directing and presenting his own movie.

Brian Lowry of Diversity was less enthusiastic, saying "Once you lot become by the sheer gall of Funny or Die putting together a 50-infinitesimal send-up of Donald Trump—starring a near-unrecognizable Johnny Depp, no less—the boot of Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Movie begins to quickly yield diminishing returns. For those shaking their heads in disbelief over the mogul/reality Television set star'due south new-found career in politics, however, just soaking in Depp's mannerisms and dead-on impersonation, along with the diverse glory cameos, will probably be compensation enough."[9]

Writing for Entertainment Weekly, critic Chris Nashawaty said "Before this morning, I would take said that there was zilch funny about Donald Trump's run for the presidency. Then, this morning, something arrived like a Christmas nowadays that came 10 months early on: Donald Trump's The Fine art of the Bargain: The Movie. It's utterly demented, slightly terrifying, and most of all hilarious. It'south too one of the giddiest and nigh stinging political satires since Thomas Nast took on Tammany Hall."[ten] Will Isle of mann of Bad Shakespeare said "nosotros might 1 day look back at Donald Trump's The Art of the Deal: The Pic as not but a film that predicted a Trump presidency (seriously!), only every bit a hilarious human action of political satire, unique in its place in comedic and American history."[11]
